Who We’re Looking For
We are searching for a dynamic Sr. Legal Counsel / Associate General Counsel (DOE) with extensive SaaS experience who will contribute to the development of processes and best practices in “all things legal” of our rapidly growing company. This is a new position reporting to the General Counsel and a great opportunity to make the role your own. You’re an incredibly organized person who can seamlessly manage various ongoing projects while handling the day-to-day legal requests that are ever present, and you’ll play an active role in helping communicate new processes to the departments supported by Legal. You are a self-starter who can communicate complicated concepts to non-lawyers efficiently, providing cross functional teams valuable support and guidance.

This role will include:
Essential Knowledge
Leading review of contracts across the enterprise, to include, but not be limited to:
Drafting and negotiating enterprise and SMB SaaS subscription agreements, online terms and conditions, NDAs and other agreements as necessary
Interpreting and assisting various team with government contracts including fine tuning RFP responses
Participating as product counsel with respect to the development, design and implementation of new products and services
Advising regarding general procurement and other corporate functions

Well-versed in how businesses operate with financial acumen, ability to strike a sensible and practical balance between legal risks and business objectives
Previous experience at a tech company, with a school or school district, or an education tech company a plus
High degree of professional ethics and integrity
Excellent judgment and analytical skills
Admission to bar in good standing
Additional Skills and Competencies
Strong consideration will be given to attorneys who, in addition to demonstration the Essential Knowledge may be experienced in any of the following areas of legal practice:
Personal Data Privacy and Data Security
Employment Law
Regulatory Law regarding K-12 education
Our Ideal Candidate will have:
A minimum of 8 years’ experience of practicing law in-house with a combination of public and private companies (mature start-up experience a plus)
Significant experience in drafting and negotiating revenue based SaaS and/or software licensing and subscription agreements
Prior in-house experience with a cloud-based/internet software company strongly preferred
Experience working directly with internal business/sales teams and procurement teams
Contribute to RFP responses
Skilled at working effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders from sales, business development, customer success, marketing, procurement and leadership
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done
Enthusiasm for advancing educational attainment and improving the day-to-day interaction between students, teachers, parents, and school administrators

The salary range for this role will be $160,000 to $230,000 DOE.
